Immutable Impermanence

IMMUTABLE IMPERMANENCE is an ongoing documentary photography project that explores the figures behind the “digital creativity movement” — the intersection of art with code, AI, web3, game design and VR.

Through the lens of the 19th century photography format of tintype, alongside mediums including AI image making, animation, 3D design, and long-form interviews, Immutable Impermanence draws a through line between the origins of modern image making, and those writing its future. By contemplating the inherent tension between one of the first ever forms of photography, and the various mediums that have seemingly replaced it, Immutable Impermanence uses the convergence of history and innovation to examine the ways in which we create and experience art are being fundamentally redefined.

In the sample below are tintype portraits and a few of their AI counterparts, featuring: LATASHÁ, Isaac Wright and Diana Sinclair.
