The Wall Street Journal

What I did

Over two-and-a-half years at The Wall Street Journal I worked as a national correspondent, a newsletter writer, while also contributing photography coverage during the pandemic, as well as magazine features. I also was awarded the Salute to Excellence Award by the National Association of Black Journalists for a story about the first Black man to ever play pro tennis in the U.S.

As a photographer for WSJ Noted, the Journal’s experimental digital magazine aimed at young audiences, I shot a photo essay called Taking Note about the impacts of the pandemic on New York City in the spring and summer of 2020.

As a national correspondent, I covered news across the East Coast, ranging from breaking news coverage of mass shootings, to feature stories about the homeless population in New York City and profiles about leading figures in the art world.

As a newsletter strategist, I led the revamp of and worked as the lead writer for Notes on the News, one of the Journal’s main newsletters. Under leadership we transformed the newsletter from a voiceless rundown of headlines, into a news product that felt personal, youthful, accessible and was written with a voice meant to attract readership beyond the Journal’s traditional audience.
